behind the lyrics: good guy

When I wrote “Good Guy” during one of Berlin’s greyest winters, I was inspired by previous encounters with men who claimed to be “good guys” but eventually proved otherwise. At the time, I had a big crush on someone I genuinely thought liked me back and with whom I imagined something more — until, after several months of flirting and seeing each other, I met their long-term partner. This song not only feels like the soundtrack to a villain character arc, but also serves as a mockery of the term “good guy” itself. Now it’s up to you: do you think “good guys” really exist, or is it just another label people like to claim for themselves?

KARTINI - Good Guy

You think you have it all figured out

Tender loving care

When in doubt

Then you take my head

And pull it out of the clouds

C’mon baby

Be honest

What is this about?

Good guy

You’re the good guy

With a wide smile

So kind

And yet so vile

Maybe I should end this

Before it goes south

Got all tangled up

Now I need to get out

It’s a losing game

I can’t live without

You know what you’re doing

Your silence is loud

Good guy

You’re the good guy

with a wide smile

So kind

And yet so vile

Good guy

You’re the good guy

With a wide smile

Always

Playing

Always

Playing

Nice
